How to avoid falling for a Phishing (fishing) Scam?


Most of the case of phishing are related to your bank account number ,password ,credit card detail information, social security card number and your e-currency account information .Some of the latest phishing are related to you paypal ,yahoo mail ,gmail and other free mail service .Just to keep in mind none of those official company mentioned above will ask you to provide any information via e-mail .If you receive the similar request to ask you to provide the detail or link to the web site in that mail ,it must be internet phishing scam.

Protecting yourself is not difficult. Here are some tips:

1) NEVER click on a link in an email in order to enter your log-in information or password. Instead, if you think the email may be legitimate, go directly to the company website using your Internet Explorer or Netscape browser.(Do not copy and paste a url address out of a suspicious email.)
2) Always use a company's official website to submit personal information. If information is submitted online, it should only be done from the company's official web site using a secure server.
3) Call the company, if still in doubt about what the email says.
4) Always keep the right contact phone number of the company you oftern deal with in your mobil phone or notebook and use that number you keep only .For example if you have an account in HSBC,keep the correct contact number and use that number only .Never believe the phone munber in the mail .
5) Like phone number , always keep the right web sire address in you favorites and use them for anything related to that company,Never trust the web site link in the e-mail

Do Stop Look and Call

The Department of Justice advises e-mail users to "stop, look and call"if they receive a suspicious e-mail.
Stop. Resist the urge to immediately respond to a suspicious e-mail,and to provide the information requested-despite urgent or exaggerated claims.
Look. Read the text of the e-mail several times and ask yourself why the information requested would really be needed.
Call. Telephone the organization identified, using a number that you know to be legitimate.

Contact the Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ifccfbi.gov -a partnership between the FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center,if you think you have received a phishing e-mail or have directed to a phishy-looking Web site.
